Presentation of the book “Non-contributory pension systems in Latin America and the Caribbean: advancing solidarity with sustainability"

In a context of accelerated population aging, high labor informality and deep structural inequalities, including gender gaps, non-contributory pension systems have emerged as a key tool to reduce poverty in old age. These systems provide income to those who have not had sufficient or no access to traditional contributory systems, consolidating themselves as essential pillars in the construction of a more inclusive social development.

The Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) has recently published the book “Non-contributory pension systems in Latin America and the Caribbean: advancing solidarity with sustainability”, within the framework of the ECLAC-BMZ/giz Project “Transformative reactivation : overcoming the consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic in Latin America and the Caribbean. This document offers an updated analytical framework on these systems, their regional situation and their relevance to strengthen solidarity and sustainability in the region.

The presentation of the book will take place within the framework of the Inter-American Conference on Social Security (CISS), a space recognized for its contribution to dialogue and learning between the countries of the American continent on issues of social security and well-being of older people. . This event will feature the participation of the book’s editors and leading experts who will analyze best practices, lessons learned and the impact of these systems in the region.
