The Association of Spanish Teachers of India (APEI) was officially presented at the Spanish Embassy in New Delhi. This newly established organization brings together educators from various prestigious institutions such as Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), Delhi University, Jamia Millia Islamia, Delhi Public School (DPS), Springdales School Dhaula Kuan and Ramjas School Pusa Road.

The objective of APEI is to promote the Spanish language and the cultures of Spanish-speaking countries in India. Dr. Gaurav Kumar, President APEI and Director, Department of Spanish Language, JNU, highlighted the objectives of the association during the inauguration ceremony. «APEI will be the collective voice of all Spanish teachers, covering universities, schools and private institutions. Our goal is to foster collaboration between embassies, educational institutions, the Cervantes Institute, think tanks and other NGOs,” stated Dr. Kumar.

Dr. Kumar also emphasized APEI’s dedication to cultural education, with the goal of introducing the literary and cultural heritage of the Spanish-speaking world to students from an early age. The curriculum will include works by renowned authors such as Pablo Neruda and Federico García Lorca and will highlight the influence of Spanish in sport, music and Bollywood, with figures such as Lionel Messi, Rafael Nadal, Shakira and Ricky Martin.

Turbulent times in Asian geopolitics

José María Ridao, Ambassador of Spain in India, referred to the importance of this initiative. He noted: «Spanish is a language of communities, not just of countries. The support and collaboration of our peers in Latin American nations has been invaluable. “This partnership will increase the stability and depth of our historical, political and commercial ties across language and culture.”

The ambassadors and members of the diplomatic corps of Latin America and the Caribbean, present at the event, expressed their enthusiasm and commitment to the initiative. They reaffirmed their support for APEI to promote the Spanish language and facilitate cultural exchanges between their regions and India.

The launch of APEI marks a significant step in strengthening cultural and educational ties between India and the Spanish-speaking world. The partnership is expected to have a positive impact in promoting mutual understanding and collaboration.
