On September 21 of this year in Quito, Ecuador, the preparatory meeting for the eighth Ministerial Conference on the Information Society in Latin America and the Caribbean will take place. The meeting is convened by the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) and the Ministry of Telecommunications and Information Society of Ecuador (MINTEL).
The meeting aims to open a space for dialogue to review the proposal for the Digital Agenda for Latin America and the Caribbean (eLAC2024) with a view to organizing the Ministerial Conference to be held in Montevideo, Uruguay from November 16 to 18. .
The Digital Agenda seeks to agree on a set of policy objectives at the regional level to promote digital transformation. Today the region faces the challenge of actively inserting itself into the current technological and digital revolution, marked by fifth generation networks (5G), artificial intelligence, blockchains and the Internet of Things. These technologies have enormous potential to face various challenges in terms of productivity, innovation and productive development.
The meeting will seek to bring together representatives of governments and authorities related to the promotion of digital policies from the 33 countries of Latin America and the Caribbean, as well as experts and specialists from different international organizations, civil society, the technical community and the private sector.
