This side event “Power of Data: Strategic alliances for the generation of data for development in Latin America and the Caribbean” is organized by the Statistics Division of ECLAC.
Statistical information is an essential input for public policies. Reliable, timely and disaggregated information is necessary to identify development problems, quantify their magnitude and identify affected groups. Therefore, promoting sustainable and inclusive development and making decisive progress in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals requires a solid drive in the generation of data and statistics.
The High Impact Initiative on “Power of Data: Unlocking the Data Dividend for the SDGs”launched at the SDG Summit in 2023 and co-led by the Global Partnership for Sustainable Development Data (GPSDD), UNICEF, UNDP, UNFPA and the World Bank and with the support of various international organizations, aims to generate data partnerships cutting-edge national initiatives that bring together governments, technology companies, civil society, donors and other actors to establish strategic alliances to close existing data gaps and drive progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals.
This event seeks to spread the initiative on the “Power of Data” at the regional level and invite the countries of Latin America and the Caribbean to join it, in order to improve the availability and quality of data through the commitment and active participation of governments and various public and private actors, together with national statistical offices.
The session will allow for dialogue about information gaps for monitoring the SDGs and opportunities for mobilizing resources and actors to form strategic alliances for data generation and national statistical development.
