Post-election polls give the far-right Freedom Party a historic victory in the European elections in Austria

June 9 () –

The first polls published after the start of the European elections in Austria grant the far-right Freedom Party a historic victory in this Sunday’s elections.

The survey by the Austrian public radio and television ORF gives the ultra party 27 percent of the votes, almost four percentage points more than the conservative Austrian People’s Party (OVP).

The Social Democrats (SPO) have obtained a provisional 23 percent, followed by the Greens (10.5 percent), the latter tied with the liberals of the Neos party (10.5 percent).

This poll, with a margin of +/- 2.5 percentage points, is not an exit poll. The final results will begin to appear until 11:00 p.m. local time.

The FPO has been leading European polls for months thanks to a populist and Eurosceptic discourse that has permeated the population. An Ipsos poll on March 19 gave the party led by Herbert Kickl 28.2 percent support.
