Portugal detains a second fugitive from the group that escaped from a prison in September

The Portuguese security forces have arrested in the northeast of the country one of the inmates who escaped on September 7 from a prison on the outskirts of Lisbon, after another member of this group was also located in Morocco in October. group, made up in total of five fugitives.

The Judicial Police reported this Friday of the arrest in the Trás-os-Montes region of Fernando Ribeiro Ferreira, a 61-year-old Portuguese citizen with “an extensive criminal career” that includes “especially violent” activities and accusations of homicide, kidnapping, armed robbery or drug trafficking, among other crimes.

Although his first entry into prison dates back to 1980, he was currently serving eleven sentences that earned him a sentence of 24 years in prison, the Police explained, in a statement in which they highlighted that the arrest was possible thanks to ” a persistent, complex and uninterrupted work of research”.

This latest arrest is in addition to that of Fábio Loureiro, 33 years old and sentenced to 25 years in prison for various crimes and who was arrested in Morocco at the beginning of October, after an investigation in which Spanish authorities also collaborated. Both had escaped from the Vale dos Judeus prison in Alcoentre.
