This Sunday at 9:00 p.m. (8:00 p.m. in mainland Spain) the polling stations closed in the second round of the presidential elections in Moldova.
However, Moldovan electoral legislation allows voting to be extended by up to a maximum of two hours in the event that there are people waiting to exercise their right.
The day closed with 54 percent of voting or 1,683,000 voters until 9:00 p.m., according to data collected by the Moldovan news portal Deschide.
Participation in the first round of the elections was 1,546,000 voters, according to official data, slightly lower than this Sunday.
The candidates in these elections are the pro-European and current president, Maia Sandu, candidate of the liberal and pro-European Party of Action and Solidarity (PAS), and the candidate of the Party of Socialists (PSRM), Alexandr Stoianoglo, considered close to Russia.
Sandu was the candidate with the most votes in the first round with almost 42.5 percent of the votes; while Stoianoglo managed to convince about 30 percent of the electorate, and now aims to convince the rest of the voters to unseat the current Moldovan president.
The few polls that have been carried out in the two weeks that have elapsed since the first round of the presidential elections were held show that Sandu would win more than half of the votes, which would guarantee another four years to move forward. with its policies, focused on European integration.
