Polling stations open in Moldova for the second round of the presidential elections

MADRID 3 Nov. () –

This Sunday at 7:00 a.m. (local time) the first of the around 2,200 polling stations opened in Moldova, on a day where more than 3.5 million people are called to vote to choose in the second round who will preside over the country for the next four years.

Two candidates compete this Sunday for the Moldovan Presidency: Sandu Maia, from the ‘Party of Action and Solidarity’, and Alexandr Stoianoglo, from the ‘Party of Socialists of the Republic of Moldova’, who led the first round held on October 20 .

2,219 voting centers have been set up, most of them in Moldova (1,988), which will remain operational until 9:00 p.m. (local time), in addition to 231 distributed in 37 countries.

3,659,696 people are called to vote, the vast majority of them in national territory, while the rest (839,200) in authorized centers abroad.

1,447 people of the 1,809 who requested this route from Canada, the United States and Sweden have already voted by mail.

More than 2,400 national and international observers will work in these elections, having been accredited by the Central Electoral Commission.
