It is clear that the internet is a unique communication channel in this modern age. Those people who know how to use the correct tools and methods can better connect with their target audience. So it is not surprising that some politicians use Twitch or other streaming platforms in an attempt to contact the younger population.
In our country, for example, Jaime “El Bronco” Rodríguez, former governor of Nuevo León, became a sensation when he opened his Twitch channel to play games like Call of Duty Y Pokemon. On the other hand, the US congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez surprised locals and strangers by playing Among Us in a live broadcast.

Now, it was the Republican politician Matt Gaetz who wanted to try his luck on the Amazon platform in an attempt to “bring his American message to a new generation of viewers.” Unfortunately, his foray into the world of streaming was far from ideal.

Matt Gaetz, US politician, debuted with the left foot on Twitch
As the portal highlights Vice News (via thegamer), the US congressman opened his Twitch channel last week. His first live broadcast in which he discussed the January 6 Capitol riots was unfortunately unable to draw a large audience.
According to reports, the stream peaked at 6 viewers. Thus, less than 10 people listened to the 30-minute speech that Matt Gaetz prepared for his inaugural broadcast. Without a doubt, these are interesting facts if we consider that the politician has more than 1 million followers on Twitter.

Worst part? The users who went live were not supporters of the congressman. What happens is that the live chat was filled with insults and memes that came in the form of ASCII messages, that is, images that are formed through text. As Matt Gaetz talked about important political issues, Shrek and Pepe the Frog memes appeared in the chat.
Of course, there were those who took the opportunity to insult the congressman and bring up the accusations of harassment that have swirled around him since April of this year. It seems that having an audience on other social networks and communication channels does not guarantee success on Twitch.
