() – Hannah Kobayashi, the Hawaii woman who has been missing for more than three weeks after arriving in Los Angeles on a flight from Maui, was voluntarily declared a missing person, Los Angeles Police said Monday.
“As the family is aware, yesterday afternoon, after traveling to the US-Mexico border, we reviewed video surveillance from US Customs and Border Protection that clearly shows Kobayashi crossing the United States border on foot towards Mexico,” Los Angeles Police Chief Jim McDonnell said at a press conference this Monday.
“She was alone, with her luggage, and seemed unharmed,” McDonnell added.
previously reported that the 30-year-old woman traveled from Maui to Los Angeles on Nov. 8, with plans to take a connecting flight to New York City the same day, but she never boarded that plane, her sister Sydni Kobayashi said.
In the full statement released on behalf of Hannah Kobayashi’s family, they express their “deep gratitude for the urgency and dedication with which law enforcement has investigated Hannah’s disappearance.” Adding that “the family remains hopeful that Hannah is safe and urges everyone to continue the search. “This remains unfinished work and we are committed to doing everything we can to bring her home safely.”
In addition, they stressed their desire to “obtain answers and a resolution that ensures Hannah’s safety. We urge law enforcement and the public to focus on finding her and avoid speculative conclusions. “Spreading awareness and sharing verified information about your case is crucial, and we deeply appreciate your continued support in these efforts.”
Described as an artistic and creative soul, Hannah Kobayashi was headed to New York to take photos at a DJ show scheduled for mid-November in Brooklyn.
