The London Police carried out this Friday the controlled detonation of a suspicious package identified in the vicinity of the United States embassy after cordoning off the surroundings of the diplomatic compound as a precautionary measure.
“We can confirm that the ‘loud bang’ that occurred in the area recently was a controlled explosion. Investigations remain ongoing and the cords will remain in place for the time being,” the London Metropolitan Police said on social media.
The North American Embassy had also confirmed on social networks the temporary closure of the venue for this same reason, as well as the police presence in the London neighborhood of Nine Elms, where it is located.

The British security forces have asked the population to “Refrain from making speculations on social networks about what happened”without giving more details at the moment.
The police force also indicated that “there is a police cordon installed in the area as a precaution while agents investigate a suspicious package.
