Iono Cards Hit Historic Prices Thanks To Pokémon TCG’s Waifu Tax
This week the new expansions of the card game, called Clay Burst and Snow Hazard. The set that is attracting the most attention is that of Clay Burstbecause in it you can find the cards with which Iono debuted in the Pokémon TCG.
These are Iono’s Support or Supporter class cards 091 and 096. The 2 are of high rarity, 091 is SR (Secret Rare) and 096 is SAR (Special Art Rare), a kind of alternate and less common version than Special Art. In fact, SAR rank is usually the most valuable class of cards in each set. If we add to this that the illustration is beautiful or has a female character, the price can skyrocket and make the card one of the most coveted in the set. And Iono’s letter combines both elements.

This is due to the waifu tax, as fans refer to the fact that cards from Pokemon with female characters cost more than any other card, even of the same rarity range or even less common.

How much do the first Pokémon TCG Iono cards cost?
Well, some lucky ones already got both and it didn’t take long for them to be put up for sale on resale sites and the most interesting thing is that they are reaching absurdly high prices.
On eBay, for example, it’s enough to do a quick search of the letters to realize that they are insanely valuable. The cheapest version (SR, number 091) sells for at least $7,000 MXN and some sellers ask for $23,000 MXN a la carte.
The most expensive version (SAR, number 096) sells for at least $27,000 MXN and some sell it for as much as $53,000 MXN.
There are cards that fetch higher prices, but because they are rarer, either because they were limited edition, distributed in competitions and contests, or because they are from sets that are no longer produced or were exclusive to Japan, like the elusive Sightseer card, that has an adorable or kawaii illustration of the female tourist coach from Pokemon Sun & Moon. However, Iono’s cards have just been released.
So far it is not known that the Iono cards will be exclusive to the Japanese sets, but they will most likely make their way to the West as well. If this happens, it is possible that the prices will deflate, so it is better to wait if you want to get these cards.
