As it was expected, Pokémon Scarlet & Violet They did not leave empty-handed, but rather managed to take home 2 awards, Best Set and Best Character.

What drew attention was the latter, since the work done on the secondary character Arven was recognized, which revealed that his sad story was inspired by the sad past of Shigeru Ohmori, director of Pokémon Scarlet & Violet and recent main series titles.

Arven is based on Shigeru Ohmori’s sad past.

As part of the written acceptance speech, Ohmori confessed that the creation of this character was based on his own past, precisely the experience he lived when he lost one of his parents. This detail of his personal history was something that was not known.

Ohmori mentioned that Arven doesn’t show his weaknesses towards others, instead he acts cheerful, but he used the character to communicate a reflection of his memory after the loss of his father: “if I were him, I would react like this.”

Thanks to this, the director believes that the character does not feel fake, but like a real person “with changes in his feelings and his development during the adventure” (via reddit).

In case you missed it: Game Freak is working to improve Pokémon Scarlet & Violet.

In case you don’t know, Arven is one of the friends the protagonist makes at the Orange or Grape Academy and is the son of either Professor Sada or Professor Turo. However, this character grew up away from his parents, since they dedicated their time to the investigation of Area Zero and more phenomena related to it.

Thus, the young man grew up without parental figures, which is why he harbors a certain resentment towards Professor Turo or Professor Sada, at the same time that he found refuge in his Pokémon Mabosstiff, around which the events of the Path of Legends line revolve, which it involves the creatures known as titans, as well as the Herba Mystica.

What do you think of Arven’s character? Tell us in the comments.
