Pokémon Scarlet & Violet They debuted today and although they have been on the market for a short time, players are already discovering all the secrets they keep and one of the main things they have just realized is that a classic franchise mechanic is not present.
We are talking about Pokérus. Some fans who already have access to the game are digging into their archives and have already verified that this feature has been present in every main title in the series since Pokemon Red & Blue & Green (1996) was discarded in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet.

This was confirmed by the Twitter user mattyoukhana_, who revealed that in the files of Pokémon Scarlet & Violet There is no reference to Pokérus, so it is impossible to find infected Pokémon in the wild or to transmit the disease.
According to the user, the contagion was forced (by external methods), but the affected Pokémon did not feel the effects of the virus (double EV gain) or transmit it.

What is Pokérus, the beneficial virus of Pokemon?
For people who don’t know PokemonPerhaps the name Pokérus suggests that it is a malicious virus, but the truth is different. It is a virus that makes training Pokémon easier.
In games prior to Pokémon Scarlet & Violet, players could encounter this virus either by encountering and fighting infected Pokémon in the wild, although the probability is extremely low: 3 in 65,536 encounters (0.0046%). The virus stops being active 1-4 days later unless it is placed on a PC box while it is active. Even if the virus is no longer active, the Pokémon will continue to enjoy the benefits of it.
Once the Pokémon was acquired with the Pokérus, it could spread the Pokérus to other team members while the effects were active. Pokémon affected by Pokérus received double EV points, making it an essential for anyone who wanted to breed strong Pokémon.
That being said, breeding Pokémon will be a bit more complicated, as the gain will be standard and there will be no way to increase it.
As an addendum, auto battles via the Let’s Go feature do not reward ANY EVs, only lessened Exp. Point gains.
Your most optimal ways of EV training will probably be normally KOing/capturing a ton of Pokémon via Mass Outbreaks, or feeding them a lot of vitamins.

Why was Pokérus removed in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet?
As of yet, Game Freak hasn’t revealed why it decided to scrap this classic franchise feature, so fans can only speculate.
One of the most common theories is that Game Freak would have decided to eliminate this mechanic after the coronavirus pandemic (COVID-19), a virus that affected the entire world for 2 years, reason enough why the company did not want its games were even remotely related to the word “virus”.
This theory might seem a little crazy to some, but let’s remember that we are talking about a Nintendo game, the same company that continues to hold back the release of Advance Wars 1+2: Re-Boot Camp then since the war between Ukraine and Russia broke out in February 2022.
In case you missed it: fans criticized the bad optimization of Pokémon Scarlet & Violet.
