Pokémon Go – POKÉMON
Nov. 14 (Portaltic/EP) –
Niantic has announced the launch of Pokémon PlayGrounds, an augmented reality (AR) experience that combines the Pokémon universe with real-world locations at scale and with a “centimeter” precision.
This function has been launched experimentally in nine cities around the world, such as London or Lisbon, and for its operation it uses the company’s Visual Positioning System (VPS), thanks to which it is possible to align the real world with the digital one.
With Pokémon Playgrounds, the developer seeks offer PokéStops and gyms from around the world into long-lasting, shared AR experiences with “centimeter” precision, where trainers can place their Pokémon for up to 48 hours for other players to discover and photograph.
This is possible because the video game universe is combined with other locations and because thanks to VPSanchors for real-world locations and their associated content can be stored and retrieved in any database using the Identify function. Likewise, it is possible to classify areas of gameplay.
This system also provides very valuable information about the Pokémon GO game areas, such as the characteristics of the environment, so that players can “choose where, when and how long” They are going to invest in the game, as shared in a press release.
Likewise, thanks to the VPS service it is possible to reuse the set of data that drives it to help developers create functionalities driven by Artificial Intelligence (AI).
