After the pandemic, Niantic insisted on going out to play Pokémon GO to your user base. Thus, in recent months it has devised functions to encourage players to go out and play and has just announced one more that involves a new type of Raids that offers encounters with Pokémon that do not appear anywhere else.

Months ago, as part of his plan to get users of the title out to play, he anticipated that he was preparing the return of EX Raids or something similar. Well, today we know that this project is the Elite Raids, which will debut this weekend in Pokémon GO.

As we told you, it is basically the renewal of EX Raids, a type of event that few people had access to and that required a special pass, apart from the fact that they only took place in a Gym and at a specific time. The Pokémon from said raid would later be released to the general public.

What are Elite Raids? Pokémon GO?

Well, the Elite Raids are precisely Raids that will also appear in a limited way in selected Gyms within the game and will only be available for 30 minutes in 3 parts of 1 day. The first edition will take place next Sunday, October 16 at 11:00 AM, 2:00 PM and 5:00 PM (local time).

Another feature of these Raids is that only one type of Pokémon will appear in them and can only be captured in this way. The one that will debut together with this type of Raid will be the Mocking Genius Pokémon; i.e. Hoopa Unleashed. In case you didn’t know, this Pokémon (the unleashed form) was originally limited-enabled thanks to a special Season of Mischief research line and was a finite-get form (it’s impossible to catch any more so far).

Perhaps the most important feature is that it will only be possible to take part in these Raids in person, so players will have to go to the location in question and cooperate with strangers or friends in real life to defeat the Raid boss.

Elite Raids Pokémon GO generated skepticism

Naturally, this last feature was the one that gave the most to talk about, since the presence of the game has always generated controversy.

Much of it is due to players fearing that since they live in a rural region, they won’t find enough allies to defeat Hoopa Unleashed.

Living in an urban area does not ensure that there are Elite Raid Gyms. This is a difficult challenge for Niantic, as for enough players to be in an Elite Raid, focusing on a single area is ideal, but by doing this, many players might not find any Elite Raids nearby.

In case you missed it: trainer got his snake to play Pokémon GO.

Pokémon GO It does not have a feature to communicate with players within the app, so the only official solution DeNA has offered for players to coordinate is Niantic Campfire, but there are many players who are not happy with this solution.

Another detail that fans did not like very much is that this type of event takes place on a one-off basis on a single day and at certain times, which prevents players from joining these Raids because they are working on this schedule.

Although at the time of writing this note no player has fought any Hoopa, within the game there is a message that invites you to stay near the Raid site for “a surprise”, something that is not mentioned in the official Niantic statement.

Of course, this is a Niantic experiment, so we’ll have to wait for feedback once the event is over to see if they’ll make adjustments to improve the experience.
