The Japanese video game market continues to perform very well for Sony and PlayStation as they just hit a streak they haven’t had in many years. Weeks ago we have informed you of how well the Japanese company has done, which continues to strengthen its streak and break almost impossible records when Nintendo Switch was at its peak.
Thanks to the fact that Nintendo’s console is old and that the supply of PlayStation 5 has improved, Sony started the year on the right foot in various parts of the world, such as Japan. In fact, in this country his streak at the top began on January 16, so he has just passed the month of claiming and not letting go of first place.

PlayStation 5 approaches 3 million consoles sold in Japan
According to the latest sales report of Famitsu (via Gematsu), which includes hardware and physical software sales from February 13 to 19, Sony’s system (Standard Edition) retained the top spot by selling 75,518 units, again outpacing all Nintendo Switch models.
The PlayStation 5 family of consoles sold just under 89,000 units, while the Nintendo Switch consoles sold just under 49,000 units.
In case you missed it: even Xbox consoles outsold Nintendo Switch in Japan.
Thus, the interest in the PlayStation 5 1 month ago was not a flash of petate, but that week in the first place anticipated the trend that would mark the Japanese console market. This was evident, but some believed that “it would only be a week”. PlayStation 5 has already been in first place for 5 consecutive weeks, something never seen since it went on sale in November 2020, and has already sold more than 2.8 million units in Japan.
An interesting detail from the recent report is that for the first time in a long time, a PlayStation game managed to appear at the top for the second week in a row. We are talking about Hogwarts Legacy, exclusive title for current generation consoles and PC. It is important to say that the sales that are counted are those of PlayStation 5; the Xbox version does not appear in the top 30 positions. As if that were not enough, the second place was occupied by another title for PlayStation 5, WILD HEARTSwhich debuted just last week, but couldn’t beat the Warner Bros. game.
