The 10 gastronomic categories most requested by users through the DiDi Food app have been pizza, Mexican food, hamburger, chicken and wings, tacos, sushi, Asian food, coffee, cakes and American food. And only the first three categories on this list captured 46% of the total orders placed through the app nationwide, according to platform data.
The presence of this player has remained above the restaurants that offer this type of food, although below its main converter: Uber Eats. According to a survey conducted between July 2022 and June 2023 in Mexico, 69% of participants who had used online food ordering and delivery applications in the previous 12 months had used the Uber platform. With this share, the American company is positioned first in the ranking, followed by Didi Food with 68% of the market.
To measure these figures, if each of the orders delivered through the app in the last five years were a person, That figure would represent three times the population of Mexico, according to 2020 Census figures. While the distance traveled by active delivery people through the platform – in the last five years – is equivalent to approximately 12 times the distance between the Earth and the Sun.
Didi Food presence in Mexico
The delivery platform arrived just one year after the travel vertical; today the number of active delivery people in the app is 72% higher than the number of active delivery people in the app five years ago. With a female participation of 17% of active delivery drivers on the platform nationwide, 7 percentage points higher than the figures from five years ago.
As of November 2024, the app has approximately 74,000 restaurants available on its app and 70% are local restaurants. Tomás Jaramillo, director of business development at Didi, pointed out that part of the growth that the app has had has been thanks to the affordable prices they have.
Currently, there are around 687,400 dishes available to users in the Didi Food app for less than 80 Mexican pesos.
