MADRID 11 Nov. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Philippine meteorological authorities have warned this Monday that the country will be shaken in the coming days by up to three tropical storms, starting with ‘Nika’, a typhoon that made landfall this Monday in the north of the archipelago.
The storm has forced thousands of villages to evacuate and ports in the region have been closed. The storm is expected to cross land and return to the sea on Tuesday morning, Philippine television ABS-CBN reports.
For that same day, the consequences of a new storm, ‘Ofel’, could begin to be felt, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa). The storm is expected to strengthen in the Philippine Sea and could become a typhoon before also making landfall in the northern or central Luzon island on Thursday or Friday.
A third phenomenon, ‘Man-yi’ is currently east of Guam and could enter the Philippine area of responsibility during the next weekend. When he enters the Philippine area of responsibility he will be assigned a new name that has already been decided, ‘Pepito’. It is scheduled to head towards Bicol and the Eastern Visayas.
The meteorological organization has recalled that chains of storms are not common, although there are records of this type of chains since the 1950s.
