The Philippine Ambassador to Brunei, Marian Jocelyn R. Tirol-lgnacio, paid a courtesy visit to Dato Seri Setia Dr. Haji Mohammad Isham bin Haji Jaafar, Minister of Health, at the Ministry of Health (MOH) on September 6.
Tirol-lgnacio commended the policies and programs adopted by Brunei Darussalam under the leadership of Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam for contain the COVID-19 pandemic.
The ambassador noted that the effectiveness of Brunei’s response will greatly accelerate the recovery from the pandemic and the start of normalization.
In turn, the ambassador expressed her hope that the COVID-19 reinforcements against the omicron subvariant will arrive in the coming months. On the same occasion, she thanked Dato Isham for the invaluable help provided by the Ministry of Health to the Filipino community in Brunei at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic and the continued extension of COVID-19 vaccines by the Ministry of Health.
In addition, he expressed requested support for the Philippine Embassy’s efforts to expand its health screening services for Filipino citizens in Brunei.

First joint venture between the Philippines and Brunei
Ambassador Tirol-Ignacio and Dato Mohammad Isham discussed progress in the first joint venture between the Far Eastern University (FEU) of the Philippines, Darussalam Assets, and the Jerudong Park Medical Center (JPMC) to establish the College of Health Sciences JPMC (JPMC-CHS).
Dato Mohammad Isham shared that the anticipated opening of JPMC-CHS in October 2022 generated great interest, with the number of applicants for admission to the nursing program exceeding expectations. Full operations are expected to begin in early 2023.
