President Gustavo Petro referred again this Friday to the proposal to present a tax reform in 2025, although he acknowledged that it may be “illusory”due to the difficulties that its development and implementation could have due to the “political strength in Congress”.

“There is a tax reform that we have proposed for next year; it may be illusory given the political realities of the current Congress” said Petro during his closing speech of the Arpel – Naturgas week, in Cartagena.
According to the head of state, The country must stop depending on the fossil economy, which is why new taxes are required to promote the development of other types of energy.

“That we have to get out of the fossil economy, we have to get out, that you, due to the circumstances in which you live, would like it to be another way, well yes, but it cannot be any other way, we have to be from the fossil economy ”added the president.
In this sense, he stated that in the case of Ecopetrol he has a great task, although “not because it is responsible for the world crisis.”

The Government has expressed the need to make some adjustments to the current tax system that seek to alleviate the tax burden on companies, for which the country requires that the nominal rate of income tax on legal entities have a decrease of between 30 and 35%.
