Colombian President Gustavo Petro will receive on Saturday night, at the Hato Grande farm, eight delegates from the political opposition to the Venezuelan ruling party for the negotiations in Mexico City, his government confirmed.
He meeting between Petro and the bloc’s spokesmen of parties that oppose the government of Nicolás Maduro, identified as the Democratic Unitary Platform, must begin at 7:00 pm at the presidential farm, in the municipality of Sopó, near Bogotá. Colombian Foreign Minister Álvaro Leyva Durán will also participate.
The Colombian government confirmed that they will attend the talks with Petro Gerardo Blyde, chief opposition delegate for the Mexico City dialogue, as well as other members of the anti-Chavista commission in that process, facilitated by the Kingdom of Norway: Claudia Nikken, Tomás Guanipa, Stalin González, Luis Aquiles Moreno, Luis Emilio Rondón, Alejandro Mora and Roberto Enríquez.
The meeting will be held three days before the international conference that the Colombian president has summoned in Bogotá about the political process in Venezuela, on Tuesday the 25th.
Delegates from at least 20 countries are expected to attend next week’s conference, including the United States, a key player in the negotiation process.
Petro’s government emphasized that this is the first meeting of the head of state with spokesmen for the Venezuelan anti-Chavista parties in the framework of Tuesday’s summit, but noted that “other opposition parties” will be invited soon.

The following week’s conference “shows that this issue calls for the interest and commitment not only of the continent, but of the world,” said the Colombian executive.
The purpose of the meeting between Petro and the Venezuelan opposition will be to “listen” to the opinions of the Unitary Platform to “seek ways of understanding between the Venezuelan people and promoting the success of the elections that must take place in 2024.”
Foreign Minister Leyva Durán insisted that “we must talk to all parties” to achieve “free elections” in 2024. He said that Colombia is a “friend of dialogue and peace.”
“It is about resolving situations typical of Venezuela without interference. There is an eagerness to ensure that everything goes well ”in political conversations, she remarked.
Petro insisted during his recent visit to the United States that the formula he proposes is “greater democracy, zero sanctions” foreign economic.
President Maduro gave his approval to the summit by publicly expressing his desire that it serve to put an end to economic restrictions.
