When asked about reports that Trump is considering replacing his nomination with someone else, potentially Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, Hegseth shared details about his conversation with Trump.
“I spoke with the president-elect this morning,” Hegseth said when he arrived at the Capitol. “(He) told me: ‘Keep going, keep fighting, I will support you until the end.’”
“Why would I give up? I have always been a fighter. I’m here for the fighters. “This is a personal passion for me,” he added.
Asked if he planned to withdraw his nomination, Hegseth noted his planned meetings about his nomination with Republican senators today.
“We will meet with senators all day.”
