During the morning of last Friday, January 10, a small plane dropped flyers in the city of Culiacán, Sinaloa, Mexico, accusing 25 singers and influencers of being “great collaborators and financiers” of Los Chapitosone of the factions into which the leadership of the Sinaloa Cartel, the criminal organization dedicated to drug trafficking.
Hundreds of flyers printed in black and white, include the faces and names of the 25 accused, in addition to a message asking the citizens of Sinaloa to please report these people: “Do you know the Toad Cartel? Let’s go for each and every one of them. “These people are not innocent, they are abusers of the people.”
According to the distributed texts, all individuals are described as “money launderers” directly linked to the Mexican criminal group, so the population is asked to: “Stop consuming the content produced by these creators, they are arrogant, lend namesbullies, hallucinations and very violent“.
One of the main defendants in the Culiacán fliers is the Mexican singer and songwriter Hassan Kabande Laija, better known as Featherweightone of the most famous exponents of the corridos tumbados, who was threatened and accused of being part of an international money laundering network for the Sinaloa Cartel.
Featherweight linked to drug trafficking
It is not the first time that Peso Pluma has been publicly denounced for its closeness to the Sinaloa Cartel, since in September 2024, the Mexican authorities assured that the singer’s corridos tumbadas helped the arrest of an alleged operator and armed wing of Iván Archivaldo Guzmán, leader of Los Chapitos.
Subsequently, the criminal organization dedicated to drug trafficking placed four blankets with threats directed directly against the artist: “This goes to Peso Pluma. Refrain from appearing in Sinaloa because it will be your last presentation, this is due to disrespectful loose language. You show up and we are going to break your mother,” the message read.
Due to these threats, Double P made the decision to cancel their upcoming concerts in six Mexican cities: Mexico City, Acapulco, Culiacán, León, Puebla and Tijuana: “Our goal is to protect the fans. For the security We will all cancel the shows in those places. Thank you all very much for understanding,” Hassan added.
According to the Secretary of Security and Citizen Protection in Mexico, Omar García HarfuchSinaloa has been one of the states most affected by the persistent violence of drug trafficking cartels: “Despite state and federal efforts, these homicides continue to affect security and economy local,” he added.
