( Spanish) – Peruvian authorities reported on Friday that they managed to control an oil spill on the Pastaza River, in the department of Loreto, located in the Amazon area of Peru.
“Petroperú, together with specialized companies, controlled the outcrop of hydrocarbon at kilometer 11 of the northern branch of the North Peruvian Oil Pipeline (ONP), in the area of the Pastaza River, in the district of Andoas, province of Datem del Marañón, Loreto region,” reported Andina, the Peruvian state news agency.
The spill was detected on Thursday, according to a statement from the Environmental Evaluation and Supervision Agency.
A report from the state channel TV Perú reports that it was the locals who warned about the presence of black spots in the river, and that the situation affects 600 people from the communities of Nuevo Porvenir, Nuevo Andoas, Los Jardines and Alianza Nodal, which They have the river as their main source of subsistence.
