Largest exhibition of Egyptian artifacts to open at Shanghai Museum

On October 3, the Embassy of Peru in Singapore held an emotional ceremony at the headquarters of the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA)where the prestigious “Embassy of Peru” award was presented. This award, which has been awarded every year since 2006, was created with the purpose of recognizing the academic and artistic excellence of the students of said academy. On this occasion, student James Anthony Carino, who graduated with honors in Performing Arts, was the recipient of this important recognition.

Carino is a talented young man who has stood out for his participation in numerous productions both within the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts as well as in Singapore art festivals.

The young man received the award from the Peruvian ambassador, Francisco Tenya. The award consists of a silver Tumi. This is a replica of an ancient ceremonial knife used by Peruvian pre-Columbian cultures such as the Chimú, which symbolizes recognition of excellence and dedication.

The “Embassy of Peru” Award

The “Embassy of Peru” award is one of the most anticipated recognitions by NAFA students each year, and has been a tradition for almost two decades.

Established in 2006, this award not only rewards artistic talent, but also academic effort and students’ commitment to the arts.

In the case of James Anthony Carino, his dedication to the performing arts has allowed him to shine on nearby stages, standing out in numerous theater productions and arts festivals in Singapore.

As mentioned when presenting the award, his ability to transmit emotions through his presentations and his dedication have led him to gain the recognition of his teachers, classmates and the public. During the ceremony, Ambassador Francisco Tenya expressed his satisfaction at being able to reward such a talented and committed student.

Singapore Gardens by the Bay

A highly prestigious event

The award ceremony was attended by various authorities, including the Minister of Culture, Community and Youth and Second Minister of Law of Singapore, who attended as guest of honour. Furthermore, the attendance of senior officials from the Singapore government shows the importance of this event and the real impact and prestige it has on the country’s cultural sphere.

The Tumi: a symbol of artistic excellence and cultural heritage of Peru

On the other hand, the event was an opportunity for those who attended to learn more about the cultural heritage of Peru, with a particular focus on the symbolism of the Tumi.

This ancient ceremonial knife is a very important piece of Peruvian pre-Hispanic culture, used in rituals by the Chimú, Moche and other pre-Columbian civilizations. Its inclusion in the award not only highlights the history of Peru, but also symbolizes the connection between artistic excellence and the cultural heritage of the Andean country.
