Pedro Sánchez and six other European leaders call for the publication of the Venezuela minutes

The President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, has signed a declaration together with other European leaders in which they express their concern about the situation in Venezuela following the presidential elections, request the publication of the minutes of those elections and condemn any threat against any Venezuelan politician.

The declaration was signed by Sánchez, French President Emmanuel Macron; German Chancellor Olaf Scholz; and the Prime Ministers of Italy (Giorgia Meloni), Portugal (Luis Montenegro), Poland (Donald Tusk) and the Netherlands (Dick Schoof).

In the text, to which Efe has had access, all of them express their “great concern” about the situation in Venezuela following the presidential elections last Sunday. They ask the Venezuelan authorities to make all the minutes public as soon as possible in order to guarantee the total transparency and integrity of the electoral process.

In this regard, they recall that the opposition indicates that it has collected and published more than 80% of the minutes produced at each voting table and they emphasize that this verification is essential to recognize the will of the Venezuelan people.

“The rights of all Venezuelans, especially political leaders, must be respected during this process. We strongly condemn any arrest or threat against them,” the leaders who signed the statement added.

They also demand that the will of the Venezuelan people and their right to peaceful protest and freedom of assembly be respected. “We will continue to closely monitor the situation with our partners and support democracy and peace for the Venezuelan people,” the heads of state or government who signed the text added.
