Sep. 25 () –

The Italian electoral authorities have reported that the participation at 7:00 p.m. in the legislative elections this Sunday has reached 51.16 percent, seven points less than at the same time in 2018 (58.41 percent).

The region with the highest participation at 7:00 p.m. is Emilia Romagna (59.63 percent), followed by Lombardy (58.82 percent). The ones with the least participation are Calabria (36.92 percent) and Campania (38.73 percent), according to official data.

The polls will be open until 11:00 p.m. Immediately afterwards the counting of ballots will begin, although results are not expected until Monday.

This Sunday more than 50 million Italians are called to choose who will occupy 400 seats in the Chamber of Deputies and 200 in the Senate. In both chambers there will now be fewer legislators, in accordance with the provisions of a constitutional reform endorsed in a referendum by the citizens in September 2020.

Also on this day the renewal of the Regional Council of Sicily is voted and elections for regional governors are held.
