( Spanish) — The Ministry of Public Security of Panama reported this Tuesday that the government sent a total of 55.7 tons of cocaine to the United States with the aim of destroying it in that country.
The authorities detailed in a statement that this is the second shipment of drugs that has been sent, in this case to the city of Philadelphia. Before, at the end of August 2022, a first shipment with 40 tons was sent. The total amount comes from seizures and was accumulated in security warehouses.
The institution ensures that the drug is sent to the United States for its destruction and thus avoid contamination caused by its open burning, and as part of a cooperation agreement between the two countries.
Panama’s Minister of Public Security, Juan Manuel Pino, said that currently his country does not have a drug incinerator, which is why it is one of the priority projects. And he assured that the transfer of the shipment was made under a logistics that allows attesting to its destruction.
