The Panamanian Prosecutor’s Office confirmed on Tuesday the death of the young Basque woman Eneritz Argintxona Fraile, who disappeared a week ago on Colón Island, in the Panamanian province of Bocas del Toro, days after finding the lifeless body of the victim on Carenero Island, east of Colón Island.

The Homicide and Femicide Department of the Bocas de Toro Regional Prosecutor’s Office has confirmed that the body found on July 26 “corresponds to the 30-year-old Spanish citizen, who disappeared last Tuesday. The authorities have achieved the identification with the collaboration of the victim’s mother, with whom the DNA has been scientifically compared.

The Public Prosecutor’s Office, which has begun field investigations to find those responsible, has indicated that the autopsy has shown that Argintxona – originally from Erandi (Vizcaya) – died as a result of a head injury. The authorities have located some of the victim’s belongings, as well as “clues of the possible perpetrators.”

According to a statement, the investigation began with the discovery of the victim’s body on Isla Carenero, when residents of the area notified the authorities. Subsequently, officials from the Prosecutor’s Office moved to the site to remove the body.
