Paloma Sánchez, Page's number two for 28M: a "business advocate" who is looking for the "social justice"

A resident of the Pío XII neighborhood of Talavera de la Reina, born in 1976, a member of the PSOE for just over a year and dedicated entirely to the economic and business promotion of her city, Paloma Sánchez Garrido has been one of the great surprises of PSOE lists for the regional elections on May 28. She occupies second place in the candidacy, for the Toledo constituency, of President Emiliano García-Page, which is both a nod to the city and a commitment to a woman with a very versatile and dialogue profile.

Sánchez Garrido is councilor for Business Economic Promotion and Coordination and Promotion of Development Programs of the Talavera City Council since the 2019 elections, when the mayor, the socialist Tita García Élez, elected her for the municipal portfolio. She was on the PSOE municipal list as an independent, but three years later she decided to join this party. In one of the last Provincial Committees of the Toledo socialists, her name was by word of mouth as Page’s possible number two on the list for Toledo. And so it has been.

“I have always been a socialist sympathizer and now I saw that I could contribute more within the party. I am a staunch defender of companies, they are the only ones that generate wealth and employment, but I will also always defend social justice, and that can only be done from the political left”, he comments with elDiarioclm.es.

It is a principle that the candidate to occupy a seat in the Castilian-Manchegan Parliament has kept in mind since the beginning of her professional career. She graduated in Geography and History from the Complutense University of Madrid, she immediately traveled to California to learn English and get to know the area of the Spanish missions. Upon her return, she studied the Master’s Degree in Human Resources Management at CEF and later started her career focused on foreign trade.

Her specialization in this area has also led her down the path of new technologies due to the “great direct relationship” they have with the improvement of business processes. In fact, her training in web development and graphic design -because she is “a defender of not using paper”- led her to prepare an online portal with useful information for companies that she has also deployed in Talavera de la Queen.

Paloma Sánchez is also president of the Institute for Economic Promotion of Talavera, which now has its own “very unique” website that advises, accompanies, informs and offers all kinds of services for any company that wants to establish itself in the city. “We understand that for a company to establish itself, not only the industrial part matters, but also the quality of life, the environment, heritage, tourism and gastronomy”, she highlights.

“Talavera has gone from a bleeding unemployment rate to another that has dropped by almost five points. But all this is thanks to the fact that we have created projects, we have strengthened initiatives and we have accompanied companies to make it fast and efficient. The bad occurs everywhere, but the good must be strengthened to promote that everything bad can change. That is what we have been doing together with the mayoress, ”he argues.

Her passion for industrial development has led her, over the years, to attend to all companies, “small, medium and large”, because “if you can lend a hand, it is most gratifying for me, it is a wonderful job” .

Now they are signing her for the regional political field, which transcends the local. But she doesn’t see any problem, because “politics and economics go hand in hand.” “The Administration has to be close to the citizen to make their lives easier and change things. It is doing politics to revert to his benefit: if not, it is worthless. It is what we have done in the city because politics encompasses everything and is what can help improve people’s lives.”

With a guaranteed starting position on Page’s electoral list, he defends the president’s management for having achieved “spectacular challenges” and dedicates special praise to the Minister of Economy, Business and Employment, Patricia Franco.

“The president has always promoted and supported companies and it is essential that continuous dialogue with the social agents has been achieved, reaching agreements that are very difficult. We have a social peace that helps business growth. All the drive for modernization and technology has been incredible in these two legislatures”, he remarks.

From his city, Sánchez Garrido affirms that all these advances are “visible”, happening to “they look at us with good eyes and even with healthy envy”. “The more strength there is in the region, the more we will have as citizens. And for all this, it is a pride that you have thought of me to accompany you on the list ”, he concludes.
