Palestinian prisoner ends 19-day hunger strike after agreement to end his isolation

The Palestinian Authority reported this Saturday that Palestinian prisoner Sabea al Titi has ended his indefinite hunger strike after 19 days of protest after reaching an agreement with the Israeli Prison Service to end his solitary confinement.

The Palestinian Prisoners and Explosives Affairs Commission has explained that Al Titi, originally from the Balata refugee camp, in Nablus, West Bank, was arrested on April 10 and placed under the administrative detention regime, an Israeli legal figure that allows indefinite imprisonment without charge for suspected terrorists.

The prisoner was initially sentenced to six months in prison, but three days before the expiration of that term, six more months were prescribed. He spent more than a month in solitary confinement and was banned from family visits and shopping in the prison cafeteria, according to the Palestinian news agency WAFA.

In response, he went on an indefinite hunger strike that caused dizziness, joint pain, headaches and significant weight loss, according to the Commission. Her sister, Asil, was detained by the Israeli authorities on October 2 during a visit to Al Titi in the Israeli prison of Rimon, in the Negev desert, in southern Israel.
