March 2 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Palestinian Prime Minister, Muhamad Shtayé, described on Wednesday as “terrorist and racist” the comments made by the Israeli Finance Minister, the far-right Bezalel Smotrich, who declared that the West Bank city of Huwara, the scene of an attack by settlers, should be “razed”.
Shtayé, who has warned of a dangerous escalation of violence, has maintained that the Israeli minister’s words are evidence for him to be tried, considering that “by themselves they are enough to bring him before international justice.”
Thus, it has indicated that “they constitute an official incitement to commit new massacres against the citizens of the city, and neighboring towns and villages, who still live under the weight of the horrible crime committed by the soldiers,” according to the Wafa news agency.
“Smotrich’s statements reveal what Israeli officials have been hiding from terrorist policies and practices, which we knew about and tried to convince the world of, until they have come out blatantly and unequivocally,” Shtayé explained.
The Palestinian head of government has stated that the Palestinian people, “who have practiced firmness, confrontation and defiance of Israeli terrorist policies and practices, frustrating them in recent years”, are capable of “confronting Smotrich’s statements, ( National Security Minister Itamar) Ben Gvir and other extremist officials.
However, he thanked the condemnation of the United States, through the State Department spokesman, regarding the statements made this Wednesday and that Washington has called “disgusting and irresponsible.”
He has also again urged the UN, the European Union and other international organizations to condemn these comments and “activate international resolutions to boycott Israel, holding it accountable for its crimes.”
Over the weekend, dozens of Israeli settlers killed a Palestinian, injured more than a hundred civilians and burned dozens of houses and cars in the West Bank town of Huwara, after an attack in which two Israelis died.
