Palestinian death toll from Israel's offensive against the Gaza Strip rises to over 39,300

Jul 28. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The death toll from the military offensive launched by Israel against the Gaza Strip following the attacks carried out on October 7 by the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) and other Palestinian factions against Israeli territory has exceeded 39,300, Gazan authorities, controlled by the Islamist group, reported on Sunday.

The Gazan Ministry of Health said in a statement posted on social media that the offensive has so far left 39,324 dead and 90,830 wounded, before pointing out that “the Israeli occupation has committed three massacres against families in Gaza” during the last day, with a balance of 66 “martyrs” and 241 wounded.

This toll includes the latest victims of the Israeli attacks on Saturday in Deir al-Bala, where at least 30 people were killed and around 100 wounded, as well as in Khan Yunis where, according to Palestinian medical sources, around 20 people died.

The Ministry of Health, as it has done on other occasions, has indicated that “there are several victims under the rubble and on the roads,” before adding that “ambulance and civil defense teams cannot reach them.”

Gazan authorities have said that around 10,000 people are missing, so the death toll could be much higher than officially announced.

Israel launched its offensive against the Strip following the attacks on October 7, which left nearly 1,200 people dead and some 240 kidnapped. In addition to these casualties, some 590 Palestinians have been killed in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, in operations by Israeli forces or in attacks by settlers since that date.

According to the Lebanese Ministry of Health, 490 people have been killed and more than 1,500 injured in Lebanon as a result of Israeli attacks.
