Gaza authorities report nearly 60 deaths over the past day and raise the number of injured to nearly 94,000
Aug. 28 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The authorities in the Gaza Strip, controlled by the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas), have raised this Wednesday to more than 40,500 the number of Palestinians killed as a result of the military offensive launched by Israel against the Gaza Strip following the attacks carried out on October 7 by the Islamist group and other Palestinian factions.
The Gazan Ministry of Health said in a statement posted on its Telegram account that “the toll of the Israeli aggression has risen to 40,534 martyrs and 93,778 wounded since October 7,” including 58 dead and 131 wounded as a result of four “massacres” committed by Israeli troops over the past 24 hours.
“There are still victims under the rubble and lying in the streets, with ambulances and civil defence personnel unable to reach them,” he said. The Gaza authorities have estimated that nearly 10,000 people have disappeared since the start of the offensive, so the death toll is feared to be much higher.
The offensive was launched after the attacks on October 7, which left some 1,200 dead and nearly 250 kidnapped, according to Israeli authorities. More than 630 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli security forces and settlers in the West Bank and East Jerusalem since that date.
