Nov. 5 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Prime Minister of Pakistan, Shehbaz Sharif, has asked the President of the Supreme Court, Umar Ata Bandial, to create a judicial commission to investigate the assassination attempt on opposition leader Imran Jan.
“The president of the Supreme Court should form a complete judicial commission to put an end to this chaos and this evil. If my request is not heard, there will be doubts in the future,” Sharif said from Lahore at a press conference picked up by Geo TV.
“I will appear in court at any time they ask me,” added the president in response to Jan’s accusations about the involvement of the Government and the Army in the assassination attempt.
“You have accused the prime minister, the interior minister and a military officer. I will resign from politics if it is proven that I participated in this conspiracy,” Sharif added.
The Pakistani leader has taken the opportunity to condemn the attack, in which Jan was shot in the leg during an act in Punjab during his “long march” on Islamabad to demand the resignation of the Government. Jan has blamed Sharif, Interior Minister Rana Sanaulá, and a secret service general.
A suspect was arrested immediately after the attack and would have already confessed that he shot Jan with the intention of killing him, which has not stopped the protests and demonstrations for the third consecutive day throughout the country. Police have used tear gas and arrested dozens of protesters.
