Guarantees that the armed forces will always abide by the Constitution in the face of accusations by former Prime Minister Jan about their possible interference
29 Apr. (EUROPE PRESS) –
The Chief of Staff of the Pakistani Army, General Asim Munir, has assured the population this Saturday that the military is devoting all its efforts to the attempts of the “enemies” to “crack the country” and distance people from the Armed Forces in the midst of the deep frictions that are shaking national politics.
The former Prime Minister of Pakistan Imran Khan, for example, has hinted since his forced departure from power that commanders of the Pakistani Army and its Intelligence services have played an instrumental role in his downfall, and recalled the enormous importance of the ranks in the national politics for decades.
In response, the general has assured in his speech this Saturday at the Kakun Military Academy, in the province of Khiber-Pakhtunjua, that the Army will always abide by constitutional limits and will not interfere in the political development of the country.
“Our enemies are hell-bent on driving a wedge between our people and the Armed Forces for ulterior motives. We will ensure that this bond is preserved and further cemented through selfless performance of the duties entrusted to us within the confines of the Constitution of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan”, has made it known.
The very province where he gave the speech is now one of the epicenters of the political crisis in the country. Right now it is under an interim local government because its previous leaders, members of Khan’s party, decided to relinquish power with the intention of forcing new elections throughout the country.
The general has also dedicated a few words against the Pakistani Taliban, who have increased their activity for some time now, assuring that, although the country “has defeated organized terrorism as an existential threat, its scourge still represents a major threat for society”.
“We want to point out to our enemies, inside and outside of them, that the Pakistani armed forces will never shy away from any sacrifice to stabilize, secure and safeguard the future of our next generations,” he said during his speech, reported by the Pakistani newspaper ‘Dawn ‘.
