A village affected, like millions of others, by the disastrous combination of violent monsoon rains at the end of August and the melting of glaciers caused by this year’s record heat. A third of Pakistan was under water, destroying homes, crops, livestock and infrastructure. It is estimated that 5.2 million people have been brought to their knees. The most affected are women and girls, many still do not have a place to stay and do not even have a change of clothes. The most reliable statistics indicate that among those affected by the floods there are at least 650,000 pregnant women, 73,000 of whom expect to give birth this month.

In this huge catastrophe, -with a campaign launched through the Pime Onlus Foundation- decided to heed the appeal of a single village, Allah Bachao Shoro, where 150 families have lost everything. Although there are still difficulties in accessing certain areas, our correspondent from managed to reach the village, in the Hyderabad area, to provide first aid. Combining our contribution with that of some Pakistani Christian benefactors, on October 10 it was possible to distribute relief goods to 90 Christian, Muslim and Hindu families living in Allah Bachao Shoro.

Responding to the most urgent requests, each family received a large box of dry food, a tent and two mosquito nets). Each box of food contains flour, spices, legumes, milk, oil, sugar, tea, rice and soap and is enough to cover the needs of a small family for a month. The women also received small cash grants to buy other necessities available locally. After losing everything, the poor families of Allah Bachao Shoro find themselves in a heartbreaking situation; The damage is beyond imagining. “Many people visited our village and took photos,” says catechist Abdul Majeed, “but they did not help us. We were still living on the canal bank without tents.
