Overwatch Begins Account Merge Process to Prepare for Cross-Progression

One of the new features of Overwatch 2 will be the cross-progression that will allow progress and content to be transferred between sessions on different platforms. In order to use this new tool before the game is available on October 4, Overwatch players must merge their accounts and, if they haven’t already, link the account to Battle.net. The merge process started today, so Blizzard Entertainment has released a questions and answers session to resolve any questions.

“With the launch of cross-progression, you will be able to merge multiple Overwatch accounts to progress and have in-game cosmetics on a single Overwatch 2 profile,” explains the development team. “Starting August 16, if you have a linked console account, you will receive a prompt upon login to identify, select, and confirm the accounts you want to merge. As soon as you approve, we’ll prepare your accounts to be merged at launch of Overwatch 2.”

“Progress from linked console accounts will be stored in your Battle.net account, just like cosmetic items,” adds the studio. Note that console accounts can only be merged once, so it’s a good idea to double check which accounts are being merged before proceeding. It is possible to change or modify console accounts that are already associated with a Battle.net account. All associated accounts will be displayed on the game account merge screen.

On the other hand, Blizzard offers the option to unlink console accounts from the Battle.net account, but keep in mind that you will have to wait a year to link new accounts. For PC gamers the process is much easier and quicker since everyone already uses a Battle.net account. On this platform, your Overwatch progress will automatically carry over to Overwatch 2, and there will be the option to merge any console account to your Battle.net account.

In the Blizzard Q&A session you will also find explanations on how skill ratings are merged (the highest rank will appear) or how stats will be merged (total values will be added together and in the case of the best ones the highest will be taken). tall). Finally, note that Overwatch 2 will be a game free-to-play that will leave behind the loot boxes and bet on the seasons with a battle pass.
