Overnight stays in Spanish hotels set a historical record in the summer months, with more than 169 million

Overnight stays in Spanish hotel establishments exceeded the figure of 169.2 million in the months of June, July, August and September, a new historical maximum for this period and well above the 164.9 million overnight stays in 2019, before the pandemic, according to data from the Hotel Situation made public this Wednesday by the National Institute of Statistics (INE).

In the first nine months of the year, 291.6 million overnight stays were registered, 5.2% more than in the same period of 2023 and also the highest figure in the series for this period.

In the month of September alone, overnight stays in Spanish hotels increased by 2.8% year-on-year, exceeding the figure of 39 million, a historical maximum for the month of September. Overnight stays made by foreigners in the ninth month of the year increased by 4.4% year-on-year, while those made by Spaniards fell by 0.7%.

Spanish hotel prices increased 7% year-on-year in September, accumulating 40 months of increases.

In the ninth month of the year, Spanish hotels billed 125.2 euros on average per occupied room, 7.4% more than the same month of the previous year. The average billing exceeded 281.7 euros in five-star hotels.
