OSOM has launched a privacy USB-C cable that promises to protect the phone from cyberattacks implemented through the technique of ‘juice jacking’ and that works with any device with this charging port, offering up to 60W.
A few months ago, the FBI reported that the use of public charging stations in spaces such as shopping malls, airports, and hotels could promote this technique, through which Cyber criminals can use USB ports for malicious purposes.
Specifically, ‘Juice Jacking’ is a type of cyberattack that uses the charging port as a connection and that, in addition to charging the device’s battery, allows the exchange of data. In this way, you only need the terminal to be connected to infect it by deploying ‘malware’ or steal sensitive information.
Hardware manufacturer OSOM has now released a type of USB-C that works with any device that has this port and is rated for charging speeds of up to 60W. In addition, it presents a braided nylon construction and is limited to speeds USB 2.0 (480Mbps).
What is remarkable about this cable is that it includes a physical switch that allows users to switch between two modes: either charge exclusively or charge and allows the transfer of data. It is precisely the first option that neutralizes any malicious attack attempt and protects the privacy of users while charging their devices.
