The Hungarian Prime Minister, Viktor Orbán, raised on Monday the possibility that the Emir of Qatar, Tamim bin Hamad al Zani, carry out mediation work to end the war in Ukraine.
“He is interested in ending the Russo-Ukrainian war as soon as possible and wants to play a role in it by mediating in the peace negotiations,” Orbán said from the emirate, according to the Hungarian newspaper ‘Magyar Hirlap’.
Orbán stressed that “Qatar is a country with an excellent economy and that it is present in all parts of the world.” “In the last year, Qatar has become a key country for Europe. The European economy has replaced an important part of the lost Russian gas with liquefied gas from here,” he recalled.
In this sense, he has announced from Doha an agreement for the purchase of Qatari liquefied natural gas. “We are also going to buy gas from here. Depending on several supports is always better than depending on just one,” she argued.
Orbán has also announced an agreement to collaborate in areas such as infrastructures, airport development, the communication industry or agriculture. “A good perspective has opened up for Qatari-Hungarian economic cooperation,” stressed the Hungarian leader.
