The Hungarian Prime Minister, Viktor Orbán, has acknowledged that peace in Ukraine seems distant in the short term, but has stated that, in order to achieve it, “the first step is undoubtedly a ceasefire”, in an appeal addressed equally to Ukrainians and Russians.
“A year has passed since Russia attacked Ukraine. We are not naive,” Orbán said, in a message on Twitter in which he indicated that, despite the current difficulties, the ceasefire “is the only way to save lives “in Ukraine.
Orbán, who criticizes the tightening of EU sanctions against Russia, now insists on agreeing to a truce and, based on it, moving forward in a hypothetical dialogue, despite the fact that neither Moscow nor Kiev are currently willing to sit down at the same table.
The Ukrainian government insists on the need for the Russian forces to abandon all the occupied territories, while on the combat front the crossover of attacks continues to be constant. China, questioned about its support for Russia, has also presented its own peace plan on Friday.
