OPPO Reno12 Pro is fun when it comes to testing AI, but it is more interesting and comfortable for daily use

13 Jul. (EDIZIONES/Portaltic) –

OPPO A month ago, OPPO presented its latest family of smartphones, the OPPO Reno12, made up of the standard model and the Pro, with minimal differences between them, as well as a notable attraction, its Artificial Intelligence (AI) functions, an interesting addition, although without it the phones work very well for normal, daily use.

During the presentation of this new family, the manufacturer insisted on all those features that the brand was introducing to facilitate image editing, such as AI Eraser 2.0 either AI Studiowhich expand the boundaries of mobile photography and are useful in some cases, but in others, they are merely a complement to everything that the device itself offers.

We have been able to verify this at Portaltic with the OPPO Reno12 Pro, which we have used for a few weeks and with which we have confirmed, first of all, that at the design level it is the perfect continuation of the OPPO Reno11 F, with which we also had the opportunity to get into the snow last April.

If one of the main attractions of this was its appearance, with a very different back to what had been seen before in its range and a Magnetic Particle Design finish – which simulated the waves of the sea – this is repeated in the OPPO Reno12 Pro by incorporating the design Futuristic Fluid, which tends towards silver-lilac color. The other option in this segment is the model Nebula Blackwhich divides the case into a shiny part and a matte part.

Although it could have been made with glass to highlight its premium format -with a screen 6.7-inch FHD+ AMOLED, With a 120Hz refresh rate and designed with an Infinite View format with a quadruple microcurve, the firm has opted for plastic for both the back and the frame, although the internal structure is made of aluminum.

This material also reduces its weight, 180 grams (very similar to the previously mentioned version, weighing 177 grams) and allows it to offer a minimal thickness of 7.4 mm, making it lighter and also an ideal choice for everyday use.

The thinness of the device and the lightening of its weight, however, does not seem to compromise the battery capacity of 5,000mAh, which offers enough autonomy to not charge it in a day and is also compatible with SuperVOOC 80W. Thus, you can have the device charged almost 50 percent by plugging it in for just 15 minutes. The bad thing, once again, is that the charger is not included in the box of the mobile, although it does add a USB-C cable.

The terminal, which is equipped with a MediaTek Dimensity 7300 processor – the same as the standard model – has a 12 GB LPDDR4X RAM memory – expandable up to 24 GB – and a storage of 512 GB, which can also be increased to 1 TB, although what it offers is enough for normal use.

CAMERA AND VIDEO MORE THAN ACCEPTABLE

Its camera is also sufficient, with a 50MP main lens with Sony LYT-600 sensor and HDR, a 8MP ultra wide angle lens and a 50MP telephoto lens with 2x zoomwhich produces sufficiently sharp and realistic photographs to be used frequently. This is because, on other occasions, the distortion is such when using this lens that it is not worth taking the image at this magnification.

In general, the photos it takes have a very natural and realistic color, and it does not sin excessively with saturation and shows contrasts and shadows very well. However, if you want to “help” the phone to do its job better, it offers different photography modes, such as Night Mode or the Portrait Mode.

The camera frame is another detail that we liked, which does not stand out as much as the OPPO Reno 10 -although it is not one of the smartphones that offers less manageability when not covered by a case-, although it changes its characteristic format to integrate the three lenses arranged vertically in a rectangle.

In the video section, just having the ability to record in 4K at 30 fps and that its optical stabilizer (OIS) is more than adequate shows that it is very capable for any situation if we are not going to dedicate it to content creation.

In terms of sound, it introduces a double speaker that can be configured with different modes depending on what is being viewed, although we were not convinced by one of the features that the brand highlighted during its presentation. We are talking about the function Ultra Volume that, although it elevates it at 300 percent of its capacity, In our tests it only served to distort the music we listened to.

A LOT OF AI TO ENTERTAIN YOURSELF

As has already happened with other brands, such as realme, vivo or Pixel, AI has become the key that differentiates a cutting-edge mobile from one that is not up to date. For this reason, OPPO guided the promotion of the OPPO Reno12 around the features driven by this technology integrated into its ‘smartphones’.

It has done well, because one of the main attractions of the new OPPO is AI Studio, an image generator that introduces a series of templates – somewhat limited, although at the moment it is unknown whether the brand will incorporate more or allow users to create them themselves in the future – such as the “vacation at sea”, “boy in high school” or “coastal dream” modes.

There is no doubt that seeing how AI imagines us dressed as students, with coloured hair and even changing our sex is something to behold, but we do not find it much more useful than for entertainment. Among other things, because the results do not quite fit. This is because it has made our heads too big, our necks much longer than normal and our eyes sadder. It has even deformed our teeth.

We are more convinced by AI Eraser 2.0, a magic eraser similar to the ones already offered by Google or Samsung, which allows you to remove people (even in group photos) and objects from a photo. Its result is optimal, very real and not pixelated, so it can be a great help to eliminate everything we don’t like about our photo.

In summary, OPPO Reno12 Pro, that It is sold for 549 euros, It is an interesting phone that goes far beyond some of the features that are not so commonly used on a daily basis and offers everything you need for normal use, as long as you are not looking for professional photography or the extraordinary performance that gaming sessions demand.
