At least one person has been killed and another injured in an Israeli strike on a vehicle near the town of Chaqra in southern Lebanon, in the context of clashes that began more than nine months ago with the Shiite militia-party Hezbollah.
According to information collected by the Lebanese newspaper ‘L’Orient-Le Jour’, at least two people have been evacuated to a hospital after the bombing of the van, although one of them died hours later in a hospital, although he has not yet been identified.
The Israeli army has confirmed in a statement published on its website that it is responsible for the attack and has said that “Hezbollah terrorists” were travelling in the vehicle. The Lebanese group has not yet commented on what happened.
The army also indicated that several drones launched by Hezbollah have been intercepted in the last few hours, although some have hit in the north of the country, causing several fires. The army has stressed that these events have resulted in no casualties.
Hezbollah, for its part, has claimed responsibility for the latest attacks, amid heightened tensions on the border following clashes that erupted after the start of the military offensive on the Gaza Strip following the attacks carried out on October 7 by the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) and other Palestinian factions.
Tensions have been on the rise in recent weeks, with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu recently warning that the Israeli army is “prepared for a very powerful action” on the border with Lebanon. Meanwhile, the leader of the Lebanese group, Hassan Nasrallah, has assured that if Hamas and Israel reach a ceasefire in Gaza, the group will end its attacks “without conditions.”
