At least one person has died and 30 others have been injured in an explosion at a pasta factory in the Turkish town of Hendek, located in the province of Sakarya (northwest), authorities have confirmed, although the cause of the incident is not yet known.
The explosion, which occurred on Sunday, was followed by a fire at the facility. The Sakarya governor’s office said in a statement posted on its Facebook account that “during cooling efforts following the explosion, the body of a person was found.”
He also said that six of the injured are in serious condition, including two who are intubated due to the severity of their condition, before adding that three firefighters have been slightly injured during search and rescue work in the area.
“Cooling efforts are continuing following the explosion and necessary safety measures have been taken around the factory to avoid any negative impact,” he stressed. Authorities have already announced the opening of an investigation into the incident.
