() — A Northeastern University staff member was injured when the package the person was opening detonated, the school said.
“The staff member sustained minor injuries and is being treated,” Shannon Nargi, Northeastern Media Relations Manager, said in an email. The package was delivered to Holmes Hall, Nargi said.
The Boston Police bomb squad and Boston Emergency Services are investigating the scene and the building has been evacuated, Nargi said.
Holmes Hall is the center of the school’s “writing activities”, according to the Northeastern University website.. the university police tweeted that emergency services were responding to an incident at Holmes Hall and asked people to avoid that area.
Just before 10:00 p.m. university police tweeted that “the scene at Homes Hall is currently contained” and that they are working with the Boston Police Department to secure the area.
Police said they were called around 7:16 p.m. to respond to the incident.
“We will update community members when more information becomes available,” Nargi said.
