( Spanish) –– The young Argentine Benjamín Gamond, victim along with two other tourists of a knife attack in Mexico, died this Monday, his relatives reported on Instagram.
The incident, according to the authorities, occurred on May 12 when Gamond, Santiago Lastra and Macarena González were attacked with a sharp weapon in the town of La Isla Chacahua, Oaxaca, on the southwestern coast of the country.
Hours earlier this Monday, authorities said that Gamond had suffered a “trcranioencephalic aumatism and hypovolemic shock”. Various media reported that Gamond was hospitalized in the capital.
The Tala Rugby Club teamto which Gamond belonged, also spread the newsexpressed his solidarity with the family and announced the suspension of the day’s activities as a sign of mourning.
The Oaxaca Attorney General’s Office reported the arrest this Sunday of the alleged perpetrator. In a statement, the Government of Villa de Tututepec identified the suspect as Cruz Irving Martínez Flores. is trying to determine if he has an attorney and what his version of events is.
The authorities of Villa de Tututepec said in a statement that “this type of act does not define the hospitality, security and peace that these tourist destinations have offered to millions of tourists for many years.”
