Square Enix has proven to have a lousy track record when it comes to games as a service. The company has been unable to sustain projects of this kind, instead it has closed them in a matter of months and today one more has joined the infamous list.
We are talking about Echoes of Manathe free-to-play gachapon mobile title with an original story based on the universe of seiken densetsu (Manna). This title debuted in April of last year and before it turned 1 year on the market, Square Enix announced that it would stop working shortly after, precisely today, May 15.

it is not possible to play anymore Echoes of Mana
The shutdown occurred at midnight and as soon as the agreed time was reached, players were unable to continue in the game and were sent to the main screen, which originally displayed a message stating that the game was undergoing maintenance and that it was later changed to a message of thanks for the support: “We want to express our sincerest gratitude to all of our players,” the message read.
The company also took the opportunity to say goodbye on Twitter and did so through a special illustration of Mousseline, one of the original characters in this adventure.
“We thank all of our players who joined the adventure of Echoes of Mana. Our journey ends here, but your echo will endure,” the message read.

Square Enix continues to fail with its games as a service
This is the latest Square Enix failure in terms of games as a service in recent months (Marvel’s Avengers, Babylon’s Fall, etc). In fact, just 1 month ago the company closed the mobile title Dragon Quest The Adventure of Dai: A Hero’s Bondafter only a year and a half of availability.
Obviously, the fan community of the series Manna They’re saddened by the closure, but hope Square Enix tries harder on the next installment in the series, scheduled to debut on consoles.
