At least one person died on Thursday in an explosion at the Caparica campus of the Nova University of Lisbon, south of the capital, the cause of which is still unknown, according to Civil Protection.
A source from the Civil Protection’s Setúbal District Relief Operations Centre explained that The explosion occurred in a company located in the Faculty of Science and Technology and did not cause any fire.
There was also one minor injury at the scene, who was not directly involved in the explosion.
The alert was given at 12:45 local time and 20 personnel and eight vehicles of the rescue forces were dispatched to the faculty, according to information provided to Efe.
The motive for the explosion will be investigated by the National Republican Guard (GNR).
The Faculty of Science and Technology of the Nova University is located on the Caparica campus, located about 10 kilometres south of Lisbon, on the other bank of the Tagus River.
